Seaweed Extraction System – Biostim 2000 Compact
Biostim 2000 Compact is a modular processing system to produce seaweed-based bio stimulants. Developed by Sirputis, the system converts fresh or semi-dried macroalgae biomass into stabilized liquid extracts rich in natural bioactive compounds. The remaining biomass can be further processed into pressed pulp or dried solid fractions.
The compact system integrates the full processing chain from seaweed intake to liquid extract production and optional biomass drying. Its modular design allows flexible installation close to harvesting sites, reducing transport requirements for wet biomass and preserving sensitive bioactive components.
Compatible feedstocks include Sargassum, Alaria, Kappaphycus, Saccharina, Laminaria, Giant Kelp, and other macroalgae used in agricultural bio stimulant production.
Main Functions
- Intake and preparation of wet or semi-dry seaweed
- Mechanical cell disruption to release bioactive compounds
- Production of stabilized liquid bio stimulant extract
- Optional pressing and drying of biomass pulp
Process Flow
Seaweed Intake → Biomass Disintegration → Mechanical Cell Disruption → Solid–Liquid Separation → Optional Biomass Drying
Output streams
- Liquid seaweed bio stimulant extract
- Pressed seaweed biomass pulp
- Dried seaweed fraction (granules or powder)
During processing, seaweed biomass is mechanically disrupted in an aqueous medium, releasing soluble bioactive compounds that are separated into the liquid extract, while the remaining pulp is dewatered and optionally dried.
Key Advantages
Mechanical cell disruption releases alginate oligosaccharides, fucoidan, laminarin and polyphenols
- Modular configuration enabling scalable processing capacity
- Integrated utilization of both liquid and solid biomass fractions
- Typical project implementation time 6–8 months
Modular seaweed extraction units designed for
2.0 t/h wet input
Annual Operation (8 h × 250 days = 2000 h/year)
- Balance check (per hour):Input = 4,000 kg (400 kg DM + 3,600 kg water)
Output = 1,200 kg cake (312 kg DM + 888 kg water) + 2,800 kg liquid (88 kg DM + 2,712 kg water) = 4,000 kg
DM in = 400 kg; DM out = 312 + 88 = 400 kg
Suitable for pilot sites, coastal installations, and industrial facilities.
