Seaweed substrate ropes 6-24 mm
High-quality seaweed substrate ropes.
Description
The seaweed cultivation ropes (synthetic twine) are knitted to form a culture net.
Synthetic twine as an artificial substrate is an innovation of the Hibi method. The seaweed substrate rope is affixed in shallow water (hatchery) where spores of wild Porphyra, once released, became attached to the rope. After setups are gathered and transported to a 0.9–1.5 m deep growing area where the spores germinated into sporelings and then into harvestable plants.
In autumn, nets measuring 20–40 m by 1–2 m are set up in the natural habitats of the seaweed.
The nets are suspended afloat by ropes moored on the sea bottom. Seaweed spores are allowed to grow until harvest time.
